west coast tsunami watch…still on
UPDATE: hbo’s touching docu-drama on the 2004 tsunami will soon be available – order it from amazon. from the comments and messages people left, i realize how difficult this experience must be to process with children. so, i also found this really great children’s book on amazon. check them out!
in random party conversation last night, a friend told me that there is an ongoing tsunami watch for the west coast; they predict that the waves could reach higher than 100 feet! did you know??
Giant tsunami could hit U.S. West Coast
Seismologists are warning the U.S. West Coast could be hit by a catastrophic tsunami, with waves as high as 100 feet or more.
More than a million people in California live in areas that might be affected by a tsunami, and another million visit the state’s beaches on a typical summer day, according to a California Seismic Safety Commission study, the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday.
There have been 80 tsunamis in California during the past 150 years, and geological records show previous waves reached heights of 60 feet or more.

Dear Colleagues,
Earthlearningidea is publishing one activity per week through the International Year of Planet Earth – 2008, for use in classrooms that have minimal resources around the world. You can see what we do at the website, http://www.earthlearningidea.com/. One of our activities is called ‘Tsunami through the window: what would you see, what would you feel?’ and we would love to use some of the photographs from your website as trigger pictures for the pupils.
Earthlearningidea is being run without funds, based on voluntary effort. So, if you are able to let us use one or more of your photographs, this would have to be without charge. However, we fully acknowledge all photographs we use – and they are likely to be used for educational purposes around the world.
I do hope you will be able to help us to enhance the education of pupils across the world in this way.
Best wishes,
Chris.

I’m looking for shots of the Tsunami that I can include in my documentary that is trying to save the rainforest in Sumatra. If you have any pictures that I can use… I will need the rights to use them so you must own the rights and be willing to let me have them… then the project is worthwhile because deforestation leads to devistation and we want to make sure this doesn’t happen again. check out http://www.thelaughingplanet.com for more info.

We will never forget what happened in 2004, it was a real tragedy, there is nothing painful like seeing your death coming to you, especially to those who survived the tsunami catastrophe.. that must have left deep scars in their hearts. We know that everything happened for a reason.. it has been 5 years now, but still when I read the word Tsunami it breaks my heart, because I know that what happened on Indosia might happen in my Country (South Africa) tomorrow.
